sparse christmas

i had a friend yesterday ask me why we were not signed up for "toys for tots" or something like it. i told her it was because we had other options. i CAN make things. i CAN improvise. i HAVE other options. there are so many that don't have other skills that they can fall back on. if i take a spot in the programs, they are not available for those that have no other options.

That's awesome Nadia. We're doing a sparse Christmas too, partly for financial reasons and partly because there's something about the "less is more" idea. It's not the quantity or expense or coolness of the gifts that make a happy and memorable and joyous Christmas. Ten years from now they won't care about how they didn't get super funky toys (well, maybe, but probably not); they'll care about the love and general spirit that came with Christmas.
