unschooling

i'm considering altering school in the coming fall, again.

we are leaving IDEA (they are now willing to work with me, and are not flexible).
we are starting a program called a2 (acheivement accelerated).  i'm excited for this. it means no outside teacher trying to tell me how or what to teach, or even that they are behind (which i already know. but when the teacher (mom) is sick, and there is so substitute to call, what do you do.).

however, i'm discovering that my kids are more encouraged to learn when they can do it the way they want to. shannon loves to play games, elizabeth loves to cook and sew, and taylor loves legos and reading.
we went to the library on monday, and elizabeth had her mind set on finding books about hawaii. she looked them up on the computer and tracked them down in the shelves all by herself. she's currently devouring them.

i'm going to do a little more research, but i have the feeling that we'll be transitioning more into unschooling than i had anticipated.
